I voted for Shannon, but let me explain why. Not because I really liked her all that much or thought she added any value to the show, but because she was beloved by Sayid and when I saw his face as she died in his arms, I would have done anything to bring her back for him.
IDK. It's hard to have any investment in Sayid's romantic endeavors. I understand his past warrants it but there's too much self loathing there for my taste. "I love you but I can't be with you! I'm a baaaad man!"
I voted Eko. The smoke monster took the form of his brother and led Mr. Eko on a chase into the jungle, then killed him. WTF.
I'd eventually like to know why the smoke monster chose to kill certain characters.
Since you guys are judging me for choosing Shannon, I'd just like to remind you of this little tidbit... Eko was a thug who impersonated a priest! Real stand-up guy!
Let me clarify then. On LOST a character is only as good as their ability to play off of other characters. So in my opinion, unless Shannon AND Boone were brought back together I have zero percent interest in what role Shannon would play.
Besides, we'll probably be seeing her again in the sideways universe.
P.S. - Sawyer is 85% thug too, but you don't have a problem with that as long as he's shirtless, right? ;)
Let me clarify. I don't have a problem with Sawyer being shirtless, but that wouldn't sway my vote one way or the other. The only part I like about Sawyer is his wit, and that's not enough for me to vote him back if he were to die. Since you mention it, Eko and Sawyer are very similar characters in lots of ways, aren't they? I do miss the real Sayid, and I have to say, I've never seen him shirtless. As I've said before, I don't really have any interest in Shannon herself being on the show. It's just that when I looked at the voting list, I thought back to how I felt at the time each of those characters died, I felt saddest when Shannon died and it's because I think Sayid really loved her, I felt compassion for him. I think Libby would come as a very close second, again, not because I liked her, she was annoying too, but Hurley was so sad when she died, but at least she didn't die in his arms. That's why Shannon wins over Libby in my book. Notice I didn't include Juliet in this? That's because I don't really feel all that bad for Sawyer.
Yeah I'll miss the time Juliet brought Jack a sandwich when he was held captive. And the time she made Sawyer dinner in the 70's. And of course there's the time when she was bound by a chain sucked down a hole with metal and wood debris.
I never said anything bad about Shannon, but I feel the need to clarify my love for Mr. Eko. 1) He has a cool accent. 2) He was in "The Mummy." 3) Yes, he was a drug lord, but all his life he did things to make the lives of other people better. Remember when he killed the chicken as a child for his brother? He also got himself involved with the bad people so his brother wouldn't have to. (I think that involved killing a man.) And when he was a drug lord, he wasn't doing it to get rich and to profit off the sales; he did it so he could get the drugs out of his country and away from the hands of his people. So, therefore, Mr. Eko was good ... in his own way.
This particular thread is making me see more and more similarities in each of the characters. It was actually Sayid who killed the chicken as a boy so that his brother, Omar (the one who married Nadia in the flash sideways) didn't have to. Didn't Eko kill a person so that Remy didn't have to? Lots of parallels. I think I'll post about this, I like it. I guess the reason I'm so mad at Eko is because he really had me going that he was a good guy. Sawyer; we knew from the beginning that he wasn't all that nice, but I trusted Eko, and then I felt betrayed when I found out that he wasn't actually a priest! (BTW: Does that mean Claire and Aaron are not actually baptised?) (Christine, I'm a sucker for accents too, that's why I married a Brazilian!)
Hah! Pretty diverse opinions so far!

ReplyDeleteDon't forget the cat fight she had with Kate as they were handcuffed together and covered in mud.

I love that a one word post got 11 (now 12) comments.
