I'm new to this so I figured I'd start out with something that's been on my mind for awhile now.
Jack is an asshole.
Everyone is else too.
There is something maddening about the selfishness of the Oceanic 6. Originally, I was miffed because they've seen so many around them perish and still continue to be so self absorbed with their own purpose.
Now that they've returned to the island (most of them willingly), I'm convinced that they have a total disregard for human life. They boarded the Ajira Airways flight 316 knowing they would return to the island. What about everyone else on that plane?
Oh, I'm sorry unnamed characters you're about to meet your certain demise and/or be stranded on a magical island for the first time. I'm sure you have loved ones and actual lives, it's just too bad that the only people who would be able to give you insight are way too busy doing far more important things.
Similarly, Jacob's method appears to be that of weeding out potential 'candidates' from an insanely long client list. With a death toll rivaling that of a Rambo movie, it seems like massive amounts of collateral damage is a common theme here.

Did you see the latest Rambo movie? Holy shit was that violent. I gotta see it again. It came out like 3 years ago I think. Anyway, is Rambo in LOST? Maybe he should be. How cool would it be if, in the last episode, John Rambo just came in and blew everyone away and made a jacket out of Kate?
ReplyDeleteI have to say that Hurley just might be the exception of the bunch. He did, after all, buy up all remaining seats on the Ajira flight in hopes that no one would have to suffer the consequences of the Oceanic 6's destiny.
ReplyDeletePlus, I don't feel so sorry for the other passengers who made it onto the flight. I don't recall any of them dying. Besides, they were recruited by Jacob to go to the island. I do feel sorry for the pilots, though, even though the long-haired one had signed up for the freighter mission.
I think you're absolutely right about everyone being jerks. During Lighthouse, the scene where Hurley and Jack meet Kate in the woods, I (once again) was reminded of how much I hate Kate. So then I started thinking, who DO I like? The list is not very long, and if I do like someone on the show it's usually because they're all badass or something, not because they have any truly good qualities.
ReplyDeleteOn another note though, I don't think there were any innocents on the Aljira flight. They were either the O6, or Jacobs people. Maybe the only one who was innocent was Lapidus.
Rambo on LOST? Cool!
ReplyDeleteMy husband, who lost interest in the show during season 2, jokes that the story is so far fetched that he expects Harry Potter to come walking out the jungle any moment.
